I left Fleckney about 10 years ago, after living there with my family for 25 years. Memories of the village itself are mixed - nice centre, friendly shop keepers, but always the problem with kids, especially late on Friday and Saturday nights causing vandalism and trouble in the streets. It was also a hard place to get to and from due to the poor roads - is this still the same now?

Great website, shame about the village. Fleckney is rubbish, nothing to do, only a couple of pubs and shops. I've seen the comments in this guest book about the kids being a problem, why not provide them with something to do instead of moaning about them. I'm not excusing the trouble they cause but i know what kids are like, if they have nothing to do but hang around the duckpond they will make their own entertainment by causing trouble. think about it

Fleckney to be honest is not the nicest place to live in. The kids are a problem and there is not a lot to do and a lot of people who live there are very nosey, sticking there noses in where it's not wanted. Sorry but it's the truth.

Fleckney is beautiful but there is not much to do there. Only a couple of pubs and not much else. It's not an easy place to settle either. I guess it's a common thing with villages, if you are not born and raised in fleckney, or in other words if your face does not fit, you are not accepted. not easy to make new friends in fleckney.

Fleckney is a beautiful place to live, but I wish they would improve the bus services in and out of fleckney.

You might laugh at this, guess what my favourite memory of fleckney is? THE CHIPPY!!!
I loved chatting to the owner of the chippy. He really brightened up my day.

I used to live in Fleckney years ago. It is a beautiful place. Best memories are the queens jubilee celebrations and the late night christmas shopping in december.

Just read the post below.
It is a real shame about the churches in fleckney. I remember when things were going well with the churches years ago and i just don't understand why things with them are falling apart. They could have gone and done great things in the village and really make an impact on people's lives .
What a shame!

hey anon u r absolutely spot on there mate! yes the treatment of the former minister(Andy Lanning) of new life christian fellowship is appauling!! Apparently I spoke to his son Paul and Paul was sayin that his dad wasnt ill or anything, he was under alot of stress, not just because of the church but other reasons as well and paul also said that his dad and mum were excellant with people helping them out with there problems and being very supportive them not just christians but nonchristians as well and i just think it is absolutely disguisting what the leaders have done to andy lanning. Apparently alot of people have left newlifechristianfellowship because of what happened to andy.

i,m writing in response to mr foxs post about the churches in fleckney, what is it about the small village mentallity that seems to drive people away?
the fleckney baptist minister happens to be one of the nicest people i have met a a very long time, and he is now leaving after a short time in fleckney. and if what i hear is true, the treatment of the former newlife christian fellowship minister was appaulling, apparently the leaders removed him saying he was mentally ill, i have met this minister a number of times and he has always been very nice, and his family have always been polite and welcoming. if he was indeed ill, i would of thought that the leaders would have offered help rather than get rid of him.
i have lived in fleckney for decades, and have many family and friends in the village, and it saddens me so much to see how people, who are supposed to preach love, treat people in this fashion, you should be ashamed of yourselves!

Bad news folks
A planning application has been sent to Harborough District Council for the building of a garage on the site of the Lamplighters Hut, which is next to the Dentists on the Parade. It is a unique 150 year old building made from handmade Fleckney bricks that was once used by the village lamplighters to store oil and equipment before electricity came to our village. It gave its name to the nearby Lamplighters development, is featured on out Millennium Tapestry in the Village Hall and is also the logo of Fleckeny History Group. If you object to the loss of this old historic building phone Paul Taylor on 01858 821163 and quote 07/01618/Ful for details. Thanks.
